Buying Used Treadmills

Though treadmills are expensive, you may get a used one at very low price. But, then a used treadmill may have developed faults with the last user. It’s important from where you buy the equipment and how to check its working.

Where To Buy Used Treadmills

There are many sources you can try for getting a used treadmill. Buy it from online dealers like eBay, Classifieds, or sports store chain like Play It Again Sports, apart from fitness clubs.

While buying from a sports store take care to check if there is any warranty or return policy. Generally, the sports store verifies the working of the machine before they sell it.

Thrift stores like the Salvation Army also have it in store at times. You may have to call upon such a store a couple of times looking for this kind of an equipment. But, it’s quite risky to buy it from such stores as they have no arrangements for checking the working of the machine nor do they offer any warranty on the machine being sold. In case you are experienced in handling such machines, you may check its working as it might need some very minor repairs or adjustments.

Gyms do sell used machines but only after it is no more economically viable for them to maintain it, else why would they sell it.
There is just one good reason for a gym to sell it, and that is when they want to make room for a new machine, as generally the gyms would like to display that that they are offering the latest to its patrons. You have to have that sense of judgment that it’s not so badly used a machine.

A good chance of getting a treadmill is from the actual user who is no more using it. Many people buy this expensive equipment, but soon lose their enthusiasm to continue with it for whatever reasons. It just occupies valuable floor space at their home and they would be keen to get rid of it. You can have a fairly good assessment of such a sparingly used machine from its physical appearance and you stand a good chance of buying a good machine at reasonable price.

A Few Things To Keep In Mind

Generally you would get a treadmill that has been used for at least one year. Now, most of the machines are covered by warranty for that much time. Though modern machines employ good materials that won’t give way so soon, it’s the breakdown of electronic components and electrical motor that bothers often, once it has been is use for a few years.

It is always better to buy a used treadmill of some reputed brand. That way you are ensuring that the material originally used for making it was good. Some of the better-known brands include: Proform, Horizon, Nordic Track and Bowflex.

Don’t hesitate to ask the owner of anything of relevance. Find out if he is the first owner, for all you know the present user might heave got a used machine. In such a situation it will not be wise investing your money into it.

You should understand that a simple new machine for a beginner costs less than eight hundred dollars, if you look around for sometime. It’s not so bad an idea to spend a few extra bucks, rather than buying a machine that makes you lose your sleep because of its malfunctioning or repeated repairs. And, in any case a new machine has warranty.

There is none denying that you save big on buying a used treadmill, but you are taking a chance. Keep the above tips in mind and act smart to get a used machine that really works and is affordable.
